Across my career, I’ve realised that “team” isn’t limited to the people on your payroll or within your studio walls. Team is anyone who helps you think more clearly, create more honestly, and stay anchored in what matters — and that absolutely includes the right clients.
Some of the most meaningful relationships I’ve had weren’t defined by scopes or titles, but by trust, curiosity, and a shared desire to make something worthwhile.
Clients who challenge you with integrity. Who listen. Who believe in the work enough to fight for it. Who become part of the creative rhythm rather than standing outside it.
Alongside them are the friends, collaborators, advisors, and quiet voices who steady the compass: the people you lean on for clarity, perspective, truth, and occasional tough love.
These aren’t “stakeholders”.
They’re not “resources”.
They’re the people who shape the work behind the work.
Who make the process feel less like labour and more like purpose.
That’s team.
And honestly, it has always felt more like family — not in sentimentality, but in the way trust, care, and conviction are shared.
I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by great people — clients included — who’ve made me better.
I want to acknowledge just a handful of the people — specifically over the last decade, i'll delve further at a later date — who’ve helped me in some way (large or small) steer my course with clarity, courage, and a steadier compass...
